Meet your Mentors

Our students represent the future talent of the organization. Our trainees play a big part in supporting and developing them to achieve their best.

Eshaanj Vij,
Audit Trainee - Durban
Meet Eshaan from our Durban office! Eshaan is a fun but hard working 2nd year trainee. He joined the Deloitte Family in 2017 after graduating from UCT. He describes himself as an extrovert and loves playing the guitar as well as a good game of tennis! We sat down with Eshaan to pick his brain a bit!

If you had two hours left on earth what would you do?

Pack my bags for the move to Mars with SpaceX and take a slight detour to Naples for a slice of the best pizza in the world.

What’s the coolest thing about science?

Science is everywhere and hence it is a never ending supply of discovery. The more inquisitive we are the more answers we obtain.

Is there a documentary or book that really changed the way you thought about something?

Andre Agassi published his autobiography, “Open,” in which he wrote: “What you feel doesn’t matter in the end; it’s what you do that makes you brave.” Since I read his book, I realised that understanding a problem and just having a solution/ opinion is meaningless if you aren’t going to execute it.

Can you get cornered in a round room?

With your back against the wall and enough people surrounding you can get cornered regardless of where you are

When you looked in the mirror first thing this morning, what was the first thing you thought?

Hakuna Matata
Robert Abraham,
Audit Trainee – Port Elizabeth
Robert Abraham is from our Port Elizabeth (PE) office. Rob is one of our most charismatic trainees and this has earned him the title of being chosen as a Deloitte Africa Brand Ambassador. Rob joined us in 2018 after serving as an Academic Trainee at his alma mater Nelson Mandela University. He describes himself as a very fun and outgoing guy who has hair to die for!

If you had two hours left on earth what would you do?

Well since I only have two hours I would probably spend 15mins making sure my hair looks good for the occasion. I would then finally go and purchase a ridiculously expensive bottle of wine and finally go paragliding because it’s something I have always wanted to do but was always too scared.

What’s the coolest thing about science?

It would have to be that it can make me live longer, maybe a little cryogenics and Botox on the side.

Is there a documentary or book that really changed the way you thought about something?

Well I have spent most of my adult life reading and interpreting IFRS and ISA and this has truly changed the way I thought about life in general, but other than that I am really fascinated by Elon Musk Lessons in life and Business.

Can you get cornered in a round room?

Well I want to say this is impossible since there’s no corners but it would depend on your interpretation of “cornered” it’s a subjective question.

When you looked in the mirror first thing this morning, what was the first thing you thought?

First I was “Oh dear those bags are getting worse” then I saw how amazing my hair was today… But then I realized it was raining and that put a dampener on things, but I always finish on off with my “You are a strong, powerful, individual”.
Tammy Patuel,
Audit Trainee - Johannesburg
Tammy grew up in Knysna, “Studied” at Stellies (her words, not ours) and joined the Johannesburg Financial Services division (FIST) in January 2017. Looking at the trend she really enjoys change. Her family and friends are an important part of her life and actively doing new and exciting things that get her blood pumping and adrenaline going is something she really loves. Getting to know new people excites her and she enjoys learning about other people and laughing.

If you had two hours left on earth what would you do?

I would be with my family, eat all my favourite things and jump out of an aeroplane and just be happy.

What’s the coolest thing about science?

That you can prove anything and it is always changing and adapting, with new things being discovered all the time.

Is there a documentary or book that really changed the way you thought about something?

The Zeitgist documentaries, I may not believe all the conspiracies but it makes you think of things differently.

Can you get cornered in a round room?

Of course, just depends who/what is trying to corner you. (Like a snake #DEAD)

When you looked in the mirror first thing this morning, what was the first thing you thought?

AWAKE UP, KICK ASS, DO IT ALL AGAIN and YAY its FriYaY!
Thapelo Makweya,
Audit trainee – Pretoria
Thapelo is a Tuks graduate who joined the Pretoria office in 2017. She has a real passion for people and public speaking. She is also passionate about community work and loves getting her hands dirty for the greater good of the community. She would describe the perfect world as a world where we can eat and not get fat. Her favourite thing to do is simply surround myself with amazing people, good food and great music, and according to her “that is definitely my kind of heaven.”

If you had two hours left on earth what would you do?

Oh my gosh, I would spend 20min informing my loved ones about just how much I love them and spend the rest of my short life watching the sunset and drinking a cocktail, hopefully the last few hours are not during winter.

What’s the coolest thing about science?

Black holes

Is there a documentary or book that really changed the way you thought about something?

The bible and the secret. The law of attraction, it taught to me to remain positive all the time. You are what you say.  If I speak good things, good things will follow me in turn.

Can you get cornered in a round room?

Yes, I can, for me being corned means to be placed in a small space, if there is a lot of people in the room then they push me into a small space and that to me , would be cornering me.

When you looked in the mirror first thing this morning, what was the first thing you thought?

Tjerr girl you are fire!!!!!!!!!! Lol
